What’s in my bag?

Items in my bookbag:
– Computer
– iPad
– FIN201 notes packet
– Rubber Ducks (FIN201 professor uses these to count participation)
– Pen and Pencil
– Charger for my iPad and computer
– Notebook for notes I need to take in class
– Gum When I first saw this assignment, I found it very confusing as to how this would be able to tell my personality, but that changed. When I started unpacking my bag, I realized how some of these items relate to me and who I am. For example, the gum accurately portrays part of me. I have minor OCD and one of my main symptoms is hating bad breath, therefore the gum easily accessible in my backpack in case I feel like my breath smells bad. The rubber ducks, even though from my professor, represent the fun and “goofy” side of me and how I show that to other people when I get closer to them. The stickers on my computer represent me and the places that I have been, like Emory and Jackson Hole. My charger represents my dependency on my electronics, just like everybody else. My iPad enables me to take handwritten notes, which I like exponentially more than typing because I feel it helps me remember topics when I physically write them down. Finally, I have lots of problems with my hands, especially when I write. The mechanical pencil is a strategy that I came up with when dealing with this problem to teach myself not to press down too hard on the paper and make my hand cramp. I have been using mechanical pencils ever since elementary school because they help me control how I write on the page. #sk6

Healthy choices

When I made this comic, I just wanted it to be funny and kind of relatable. I thought it’d be fun to show someone trying to be healthy but instantly giving in to temptation, since that’s something most people have probably done. The hardest part was figuring out how to make the joke land in only three panels without dragging it out too much. I realized the middle panel had to clearly show the turning point, or the last one wouldn’t feel like a punchline.

Cloudy Falls #sk4

When I first saw this assignment, I got to thinking about what two natural occurrences combine into something fluid and smooth. Waterfalls immediately came to my mind because the water falling is smooth and continuous, almost like it’s flowing from the sky. Then I realized that I can connect the waterfall to something in the sky, and that is where I came up with the clouds. The soft, airy texture of the clouds mixed with the endless flowing of the waterfall combined to make one flowing photo where cloud turns into waterfall. My main idea was to capture movement and showing how that occurs coincidentally in nature. Photo Credits: Google Chrome

Sketch pt.3: Visual Notes

In school, I have always been a visual learner. Whether it be through photos of graphs, I found it much easier to learn concepts and ideas through visuals. This assignment embodied my learning style. I chose to make my FIN 201 notes visual because I thought that would be the most real world applicable. I used a buyer (the stick figure) and the product he was trying to buy (mangoes) to personify the laws of supply, demand, and quantity demanded, which are all connected. I enjoyed this assignment very much because it allowed me to use my preferred style of learning to convey what I have learned in the class. Literary Narrative Reflection

When I was writing my Literary Narrative, I tried to remember influential reading and writing moments in my life. The first thing that came to mind were my non-fiction science books that I used to read when I was very young. Honestly, those books made me realize internally why I wanted to take the comic English so badly. I tried brainstorming an essay about those books but I was not able to come up with enough content to write an essay. My next most influential reading moments were Wonder and Born a Crime: Trevor Noah. I thought deeply about that and realized that those books were the ones that enabled me to change my writing style. I wrote about those books and how they were able to open up my creative mind and enable me to write better and stronger essays. When life gives you keys

When I saw this assignment, my first instinct was to look around in my pockets and see if there was anything I was able to use. While I was looking, I felt the sharp side of my keys on my finger and realized how I could use that. I put my key on the table and started rotating it to try and map out all of the possibilities. Finally, I realized that I could use the jagged edge of the key to represent a rock wall and draw a climber trying to climb it. On the bottom of the page is a cliff and the person is climbing a rocky mountain. His finger slipped and now he is dangling over the abyss, hence the “AHH!”
