Road to Ruin

When coming up with an idea for this assignment, I struggled with what two images I could convert and how they would be related to each other. I looked at examples of Stephen Mcmennamy for inspiration but because there was a variety of unique images, I was still unsure of what I would use. After deliberating on this for a while I came up with the idea of putting together an image of an exhaust of a vehicle and an oil spill in the ocean. I decided to put these two images together because both topics are connected with harming the environment since car fumes are a high contributor to climate change and oil spills contaminate and harm wildlife in the ocean. I decided to connect these two things by using the exhaust of a vehicle as a representation of an oil pipeline. This then connects to the image of the ocean because pipelines are known to pollute the ocean with oil, which in turn harms the surrounding wildlife. While making this image, I struggled with finding images of these two topics that would visually transition both images well. Despite this issue, I feel my image still conveys both topics effectively by comparing vehicles effect on climate change and oil spills effect on wildlife. sketch assignment 4

I was sitting at my desk in my dorm , when I noticed my skull pen-stand . I decided I wanted to use it in the assignment and so I took a pic of it , but I didnt know what to combine it with. I spent some time pondering while doomscrolling when it struck me; I could use a picture of a phone!
I had spent most of the covid years being chronically online and I would always feel dead and numb inside at the end of each day. this picture aims to portray that feeling I used a picture of a phone from Flickr , as I couldnt take one of my phone using my phone .

Fault Lines

I chose to combine a road and a zipper for my project because I was trying to get at the fragility of the Earth and some of the environmental impacts humans have. I attempted to show that once the Earth is unzipped (industrialized, urbanized), it is difficult to put back together and restore to its natural being. The road represents humans unzipping the natural planet. I did not face many challenges with this project, although I did have to edit the road’s shadows and color to get it to match with the zipper more. I haven’t had experience editing, so it was a bit challenging, although I feel I could match the zipper pretty well.

Sketch Assignment 4: Flash Lens

Coming up with an idea for an idea for this assignment was pretty difficult honestly and was the longest part. I spent two to three days brainstorming an Idea for this project and it just clicked randomly in my head that a flashlight could act as a flash for a camera. Even after coming up with my idea I still needed to create it which was a difficult part. I had to watch multiple videos to help me create my idea that I had in my head. I honestly really enjoyed this project I was able to be creative as well as improve my digital art skills. Rags to Riches

Sources: Archiwum Roweromaniaka wielkopolskiego No H02-28, Classical Numismatic Group I chose the two images of a coin and a manhole cover after noticing how similar the two are. I was walking around campus when I noticed how a manhole cover ironically resembles a coin. This is funny to me because the two are polar opposites. One is associated with trash and sewage while the other is associated with wealth and money. I think this image conveys that there a small differences between the poor and the rich, emphasizing that money does not define a person. When creating this project, I faced a challenge lining the two photos up and finding a reliable editing tool.

Stuffed vs Real

I decided to combine a picture of a real dog with a picture of a stuffed animal dog. I chose this idea because throughout my childhood I’ve been a collector of stuffed animals. I used to view them as real live animals which is why I chose to combine a stuffed and real animal into one to represent my childhood self’s perspective. The only aspect I wish I could change is to have the real dog image’s background to be all white so it would look more cohesive with the bottom picture. My final imagine is a sort of fun view on youthful imagination and the concept of living vs nonliving. Photo credits: Top image: here Bottom image: here

For my combophoto, I took an image of the famous Beatles’ album cover “Abbey Road” and mashed into it a photo of the Simpsons all walking in single file order. Out of all the sketches so far, I definitely spent the most time thinking about this one. Just when I thought I was out of ideas, “Here Comes the Sun” started playing on my phone, and I thought to myself: “I wonder if anyone could replace the Beatles walking down this street?” Luckily enough for me, the Simpsons ended up being the perfect family of four. The most difficult part of my combophoto was by far the idea generation. Luckily enough for me, I am competent enough with Paint 3D to somewhat mash two photos or scenes together. The actual editing part was not challenging. I think that ultimately my final image conveys a mashup of two iconic artist groups from the past century. Beyond just a combophoto, it’s a clash of generations and a clash of medias. Abbey Road Photo Link: Abbey Road- The Beatles | Openverse Bart: Google Search Simpsons: Google Search

Into the Chaos

For this sketch I wanted to combine two opposite images to create a sense of visual shock. The first image is a peaceful scene of birds flying across the horizon with sun setting down on the horizon, and the second image is an enormous wave crashing violently on a furious ocean. By combining these two photos, I aimed to highlight the comparison of peace and chaos, demonstrating the coexistence of beauty and destruction in nature. This combination also give us an uncertainty of what will happen next once these birds enter the ocean. https://time.com/4351931/waves-sea-photos/ https://stockcake.com/i/sunrise-bird-flight_292123_59299
