I decided to use my anthropology notes to draw a sketch explaining the difference between relative poverty and absolute poverty. Throughout this course I have been a bit confused as this is the first time that I am taking an anthropology course but this sketch helped me understand the difference between the two a bit more. Relative poverty is where one has a significant amount less compared to others around them, while absolute poverty is where one has absolutely nothing while others around them have more whether that is a small or a big amount. While drawing this simple sketch, I found that visualizing the material can help me in understanding confusing topics. During this assignment I found it interesting because it was difficult to understand and to put it into a visual was a bit more challenging as well.
After completing the first draft of my Literacy Narrative I realized that the process of my writing becomes easier when I am able to clearly remember the memory and relate it to things in my current life. While doing he pre-writing exercise it felt weird to start writing and listing random topics because I was not sure that I would be able to dive into a specific one but it ended up benefiting me heavily. While writing I realized that connecting my emotions to how I read and write now has had a great impact on my thought process and the topics I write about. I found it surprising how easily I could write when I was interested and intrigued about explaining my past experiences. Lastly, I think the most relatable thing about my essay is being in trouble at some point in time and picking up a book out of boredem and finding it to be really interesting.
I came up with the idea of using a USB converter as a tooth because I love electronics and I have a lot of cords and ports and plugs all around my desk in my dorm. I used the item as a tooth in a smile because during most of my youth I did not have my set of two front teeth due to a surgery I had and the USB converter reminded me of the teeth that I didn’t have. I started with a pencil outline of the teeth then decided to go over in in pen to make the teeth pop as well and then I placed the USB converter in the front set of teeth to represent my childhood.
I first hand drew an outline of a jersey and then used Canva to make a neon jersey. Then I combined the images and put my last name over the jersey. This represents my involvement in various soccer programs throughout my life and the different styles of comics we may discover throughout this class. My drawing skills are not the best so I had some difficulty making the hand drawn jersey as similar size to the one I created in Canva but I ended up putting them side by side to get similar sizes.
