“Christmas Love” Sketch 10

The rhetorical situation that I am representing is the feeling of love during the holiday season that is often mentioned in songs. I wanted every song to be about a lover or a relationship during the holiday season so i went through the lyrics of the songs and every one mentioned something about love during Christmas. Overall, in my mix I am introducing that the idea that relationships and love are pushed more during this season. I do this by the music choices I made being upbeat and about the topic of love during this specific season.

Sketch 8 “Data Visual”

In this assignment I was tracking how my physical health affected my stress levels throughout a two week period and I was able to identify trends that raised and lowered my stress levels. The higher ratings out of 10 that I gave my physical health habits during this time period resulted in an overall lower stress level and vice versa. I wanted to measure this because I am not the best at managing my stress but if I was able to recognize and document things that control it, I would be better able to understand how stress works for me. I chose to visualize my data like this because it shows the relation of each category to my stress levels and which ones had the biggest effects. I have also found this activity helpful but in the future I would like to find a better way to gather data such as more in depth descriptions of my workouts or the stress that I was feeling on a given day.

Tracing Pages Reflection Post

During this assignment physically tracing the pages of the book down to the smaller details helped me realize what the author was doing with each element. From the size of the panel to the colors, each part had a deeper meaning then I though it did previously and it helped me further understand how the elements connected to the plot of the story and the overall understanding of the assignment. I felt that it was easier to compare the two pages after tracing them and annotating because it forced myself to notice details in both pages that were similar to each other or that contrasted each other. While using the ABT structure at the end of the essay it felt that I was jumping right into my thoughts about comparing the pages rather than having a proper introduction paragraph which felt foreign to me. Finally, I felt this assignment helped me understand the small things that authors of comics do for their illustrations that may be missed on the first read and overall this assignment helped me appreciate a single page for how it compliments the entire story.

“Let That Sink In” Sunday Sketch 7

While starting this assignment I wanted to base it off of a well known saying that could provide a humorous punchline. I searched a couple sayings and I fell upon “let that sink in” which I have also seen a lot on social media. The most challenging part of the assignment was picking a saying that I could draw well and express thought only 4 images but I think it ended up being more simple than I thought. This was similar to creating the triptych because of the storyline with a limited amount of panels which challenged me. Although I had 1 more panel than the other sketch, it felt odd to stretch one climbing action seen across two panels but it ended up creating a build for suspense.

Sunday Sketch 6: “What’s in my bag?”

What’s In My Bag? MacBook Charger, Iphone Charger, 3 Mechanical pencils, 1 Electronic Pencil, Stitches, A Blessing And A Curse, Planner, Calculator, Harmonica, Calculator, MacBook, Saratoga Water Bottle. I realized I have a lot of school related items in my bag which is expected but I am not sure as to why I have a harmonica in my bag. I think this image is representative of me because it shows the random hobbies I like to pick up. Over the summer I wanted to do many random hobbies such as guitar, harmonica, and even skydiving and this is represented by the straightforward but also random items in my bag. For the design, I wanted to mimic the original image by using a rectangular layout of the items and the hardest part of the assignment was trying to keep the water bottle from rolling and falling off of the table. Lastly, I think this type of writing is valid because it inclines you to think about how items that you carry with you everyday represent or reflect you.

Sketch 5: “Spilled Milk”

While making this comic I wanted to create a series of pictures that would display a common phrase and a common scenario in peoples lives. Spilling milk when I was young came to my mind and I decided to make a story about it. The first panel shows the milk sitting on the table. The next shows the milk spilled and thew child crying. In the third Fram the father comes in and says the famous saying, “Don’t cry over spilled milk.” A challenge about this assignment was finding a clever phrase that I could convert into images that was popular enough to be well known but after a bit of brainstorming I came to this conclusion. Finally, this comic is different from other assignments because of the limit of three frames to tell an entire story which was challenging but also enjoyable.

Sunday Sketch 4: Steaming White Rice

I decided to combine two photos, one of a shower head and the other of rice being poured into a bowl. I had the inspiration for this by looking through the provided link of what photos had previously been combined and wanted to do something relating to water. I thought about waterfalls and rivers but was not sure what to combine then with but then I thought of a simple shower head. After staring at this image for a while I realized that the small streams of water looks similar to grains of rice. I then searched the internet for pictures of white rice on a black background and combined the photos using Canva. I simply cropped each picture and laid them on top of each other. I did try to add effects with the smoke to make the photos transition a bit smoother but I was not able to do this without Canva Plus. Finally I think my finals picture conveys the importance of food and water are both important in sustaining life and have varying importances that can coincide.
