Sociology 101: How To make Academic Paper

In the process of making this visual note drawing, I began looking at my sociology class in a new light. When I was taking notes in this specific class, I was writing a variety of information in random order. Since I was given a good deal of information in one sitting, I was only able to take in a small amount of what I was listening to. However, when I looked back on the physical notes I took, I began looking at the information from a chronological perspective. Instead of looking at the information in a jumbled form, the information started falling into place from step 1 to 6. After drawing out my notes, I could better understand what I had written down because I could see it visually. Now looking at my visual notes and how its helped me understand my physical ones, I see that I learn best when I visualize the information. During this process of visualizing my notes and drawing onto paper, I not only took in the information in a whole new way, but i also got to explore my creativity skills. HIST101 Visual Notes:”The Past is Not Dead”

Hello everyone! For Sketch 3 I tried something new: I turned my HIST 100 lecture on public memory into a single-page picture. I didn’t draw during class; I finished my regular notes first, then rebuilt them as some figureswith some notes beside each of them. I limited myself to tiny phrases and a few icons, so that they won’t get take too much space. The page also works as a retrieval cue: when I review terms like “memory laws” or “Victory Day,” I immediately recall the related figures and connections. Surprisingly, the drawing process felt like studying; selecting what to keep forced me to prioritize, paraphrase, and organize—skills I want to keep practicing. Laying it out this way made the lecture, events, themes, and examples finally sat in one frame.

Plato class notes

While creating these visual notes, I realized that I was double-checking all of my work in order to make sure that I would be drawing the correct thing. In a way, this was good because it forced me to check my work and make sure that I truly understood what I had written down in class. I discovered that having to break it down into images was helpful and allowed me to further grasp the concept. Personally, I enjoy drawing, and I liked incorporating little images into my notes, so this was a fun experience. What was helpful for me throughout this process was tracing images that I found on the internet and changing them into something that worked in my notes. I was expecting my visual notes page to be a lot more packed with information, like my class notes. However, because of the use of images, it helped tell the story of my notes more clearly.

Sketch 3: Visual Note Taking

Original notes:
Visual Note Taking:
While creating image notes, I noticed that I remember the Bio Lecture content better than I did before I started drawing visual pictures. I realized that it is challenging to transition from traditional note-taking to visual note-taking. I had to plan what to draw and how to express the meaning from my notes so that my drawings matched the concepts accurately. In this assignment, I used Procreate and basic digital comic drawing skills along with text in a contrasting color (red) to contrast between the drawings and words. I found this process very interesting, and it helped me engage more deeply with the class material. Drawing pictures supported by text was very effective for me to learn, especially since, as I mentioned in my first narrative, I am more of a visual learner than someone who learns best through reading words alone.

Sketch pt.3: Visual Notes

In school, I have always been a visual learner. Whether it be through photos of graphs, I found it much easier to learn concepts and ideas through visuals. This assignment embodied my learning style. I chose to make my FIN 201 notes visual because I thought that would be the most real world applicable. I used a buyer (the stick figure) and the product he was trying to buy (mangoes) to personify the laws of supply, demand, and quantity demanded, which are all connected. I enjoyed this assignment very much because it allowed me to use my preferred style of learning to convey what I have learned in the class. Sunday Sketch Assignment 3: How we Decide: Individual Decision Theory

These are my notes that I took during Microeconomics. During this lecture we learned the basic fundamental Ideas of Individual decision theory focusing on Economic Surplus, Opportunity cost and Decision Pitfalls. I felt that adding these visual representations to my notes has actually been very helpful especially for studying. When it comes to understanding the basic definitions having a picture allows me to easily understand what I am being asked to understand and remember. For example when looking over my notes in the top left corner you can see the section where we went over Economic Surplus. To help me better understand what Economic Surplus is I added a picture of a full pizza with a slice left over. This represents exactly what economic surplus is an excess of a good or service when supply exceeds demand. I definitely found this sketch assignment enjoyable and found it very helpful for my understanding of my notes and for studying for a quiz that I will have on Monday. My Microeconomics class is a lecture class with one hundred and eighty people so it is often easy to get distracted and not fully understand the points the professor is trying to make. By going back and analyzing my notes taking visual notes I was able to fully understand the concepts that we are going over.
